I am not even sure what I paid for by becoming a Journal member, but the site is definitely worth 8 bucks and more. I hate it when I look at a profile and it is blank, so I thought I'd put something here so that those who come won't get a big blank screen!
My name is Robin, which you probably could already tell, and I live in Massachusetts. I have been reading since I was around 3 or 4, and I can actually remember that before that, I was so desperate to be able to read that I used to stare at the pages of my books just trying to WILL the letters to become something I could understand. Clearly, I was meant to find a site like this one to supplement those urges!
The type of books that I enjoy are typically non-fiction. I paid very little attention to history or social studies when I was in school, so you know what they say...those who do not remember history are doomed to repeat it...so I do. I am fascinated by ancient civilizations and how we know about ancient disasters and the physical changes that the earth has gone through. When I was a kid, I recall a phase of being utterly dinosaur crazy after reading a gorgeous National Geographic article, complete with photos and horrifying depictions of them. So, I am repeating that as well, but what I am more fascinated by now is the emergence of the mammal and all the "inter" mammals that developed.
I love reading about the age of exploration and nautical disasters. If there was any cannibalism involved, you can bet I am RIGHT on it. I also enjoy stories of the Renaissance and Medieval era and I think I have read nearly EVERY book on Henry VIII that exists. If you have one that you think I might not have, please let me know! I have trodded through most of the notables in the English Monarchy, but get a little bored when it comes to the post-Elizabethan era.
This is not to say that I don't like Fiction, I DO. Fiction is a lot more difficult for me, though. I don't really enjoy Romance or Detective novels, but I love a good thriller. I used to think that there was no such thing as a bad book, but I have become VERY critical throughout the years and hate a "cookie-cutter" approach. I am not really into Kinsella or Mary Higgins Clark or Lillian Braun. If it is a series, I avoid it like the plague. So, I guess this is something to read for anyone who is interested. I am not even very sure that this is read-able by the general public, so it could be just for me! Here goes nothing...
